  • Dry Creek Beds
  • Fountains & Birdbaths
  • Swimming Pool Design

See our portfolio of water features Here

Our ponds and waterfalls and pondless waterfalls feature moss-covered boulders, river rock and water plants in a natural configuration and setting. One of our specialties is the meandering dry creek bed, which always includes a variety of fieldstone boulders of various sizes, smaller river rock and stones, and grasses in and on the banks of the creek bed. We try to mimic nature, and create an imperfect water feature.

We also love finding unique urns, fountains and birdbaths which add an artistic touch to the garden.

Although we are not swimming pool contractors, we do work with pool contractors and often include pool landscaping designs in an overall plan.

On the east side of Petaluma, this project with no pre-existing landscaping, involved new construction for Details Landscape Art, a Petaluma landscape contractor. The home sits on a corner, with a three-sided front yard wrapping around from north to west. The front or...

Penngrove Featured Garden

Covered with scrub oak, and redwood and pine seedlings, this one-acre property with dozens of mature redwood trees in the background, sat on three different elevations. One of the challenges for Details Landscape Art, a Penngrove landscape contractor, was to...

West Petaluma Featured Garden

Every so often, Details Landscape Art falls into a unique project with a very special existing feature. The lush wooded open space behind this West Petaluma property provided an impossibly beautiful backdrop for this long narrow backyard. The challenging part of the...

Fountaingrove Featured Garden

This design-build project began as a moonscape. Covered with rock, half buried giant boulders the size of Volkswagens and littered with wild scrubby weeds, this was easily the ugliest and most challenging project to date for Details Landscape Art. We knew going in...

Landscaping on Hillside Terrain

One of the most challenging types of projects encountered by Details Landscape Art is the hillside. Planting on a hillside was addressed in a previous blog, but when the homeowner wants to have the slope terraced or provide flat areas, other issues must be addressed....

Seat Walls for Function and Beauty

In addition to designing and building gardens that include a variety of different style patios, Details Landscape Art often recommends the construction of a seat wall, either at the perimeter or as a stone planter in the interior of the patio. The seat wall offers not...

Using Dry Creek Beds as a Garden Feature

One of the coolest features designed and built by Details Landscape Art, a Sonoma County landscape contractor, are dry creek beds. We install them as a means to cover and disguise otherwise unattractive French drains, and also as a way to break up a large garden area...

Landscape Design/Build with Masonry and Stonescaping

Rock and stonework is a staple of Details Landscape Art, one of Sonoma County’s premier landscape contractors. We think natural stone is an important element in a garden. Our rustic stonescaping includes mortared or dry stack fieldstone and ledgestone walls, large...
