A hog-wire fence is one of the most attractive fencing options available for Sonoma County landscapes. For years we built welded-wire and woven-wire fences where homeowners wanted to preserve views while keeping deer or pets contained. The hog-wire fence accomplishes the same goals while providing a much more attractive finished appearance.
We especially love the black powder-coated hog-wire panels combined with stained redwood framing. The contrast between the black wire and the warm redwood creates a striking architectural feature.

Building a Hog-Wire Fence
As with any fence project, construction begins by establishing a straight string line and laying out the post locations.
We commonly use five-foot by six-foot powder-coated hog-wire panels framed with surfaced redwood. Proper post spacing is important because it allows the fence sections to remain straight and rigid over time.
The post holes are excavated and the posts carefully aligned using string lines to ensure a straight finished fence. Each post is leveled and plumbed before concrete is placed.
One practice we avoid is pouring dry concrete into the post hole and then adding water. We prefer to thoroughly mix the concrete before placement to ensure a stronger footing and better long-term performance.
Once the posts are in place, the hog-wire panels and bottom rails are assembled and secured to create a clean and durable fence section.
