Whenever possible, we like the median strip to reflect the same style and character as the rest of the landscape. A Mediterranean-style garden should continue into the median strip. Many Sonoma County neighborhoods are very dog friendly, which creates another consideration for median strip landscaping.
Unfortunately, some homeowners find that neighborhood dogs frequently use the median strip as a restroom area.
One solution is to install dense or thorny groundcovers that discourage foot traffic. In certain situations, a low decorative fence or unobtrusive barrier may also help protect plant material.

Choosing the Right Trees

There is simply no place for a giant sycamore tree in a narrow median strip.
